Taylor Swift Seemingly References Experiencing ‘Really Rough’ Breakups With Joe Alwyn and Matty Healy
Taylor Swift experienced multiple heartbreaks during the Eras Tour.
In episode four of her new Disney+ docuseries, The End of an Era, the pop star, 35, candidly spoke about how her breakups with boyfriends Joe Alwyn and Matty Healy affected her during her record-breaking tour.
“There were points in this tour when the tour was the only thing that was really keeping me going in my life,” Swift admitted. “My personal life was hard. I went through two breakups in the first half of this tour, and that’s a lot of breakups, actually.”
“The show was what gave me purpose and was what I could use to get me out of bed,” she continued. “The tour has never been the hard thing in my life. The tour has been the thing that has allowed me to find purpose outside the s**t that was going wrong in my life. Men will let you down. The Eras Tour never will.”
The 14-time Grammy Award winner also spoke about her 11th studio album, The Tortured Poets Department, which she wrote on tour while dealing with the fallout from her relationships.
“Tortured Poets album is like this purge of just everything, everything bad that I felt for two years,” Swift shared. “It was a really rough time in my life, so the songs reflect that.”
“Feeling like I’m not a person, I’m just this big conglomerate that no one sees as a real human being, and especially not men that I date,” she added. “And in the whole process, just being like, ‘Nothing works. Nothing. There’s no one for me in the world.'”
The Eras Tour commenced in March 2023 and concluded in December 2024. The singer-songwriter began the tour in a relationship with Alwyn, 34, whom she dated for about six years, calling it quits around April 2023. The “Cruel Summer” hitmaker then struck up a romance with Healy, 36, around May 2023, but the pair broke up in June 2023.
However, Swift didn’t end the tour single as she started dating Travis Kelce in the summer of 2023, and the couple got engaged in August 2025.
