Ryan Reynolds Has ‘Serious Rebuilding to Do’ After ‘It Ends With Us’ Scandal: ‘People’ Are ‘Wary of Him’

Blake Lively isn’t the only one feeling the fallout from her It Ends With Us battle with Justin Baldoni. A source tells Star that Ryan Reynolds‘ involvement in the ensuing scandal has brought repercussions of its own.

“Sure, Ryan was all smiles and jokes at Comic Con this summer but it’s a much darker time than he’s letting on,” dishes the source. “He has privately acknowledged that it could take years to win back the full confidence of the industry that he enjoyed before he and Blake went to war with Justin.”

Reynolds, 49, faced backlash after Lively, 39, told E! News that he re-wrote the film’s iconic rooftop scene. His “manipulative” email to the book’s author, Colleen Hoover, sent after the movie premiered in 2024, also drew criticism from fans, as Star previously reported.

“His significant involvement with the difficult It Ends With Us production and aftermath has made people wary of him and less willing than they were a couple of years ago to hand over total creative control of a given project to him and his company,” the source reveals.

Reynolds has “some serious rebuilding to do,” says Star‘s source — and he knows it.

“Ryan grew up wanting to make a fortune and win Oscars, but the prestige projects are not materializing,” the source admits, “and there are filmmakers who are downright scared of Ryan because he has such a domineering and exacting personality.”

Currently, “he’s writing the next Deadpool adventure and he and Hugh Jackman are working on their sailing reality show,” says the source. “But where are the rom-coms and action dramas that also used to be a huge part of Ryan’s work? He doesn’t want to be still playing Deadpool when he’s 70, that’s for sure!”
