The fate of several shows in Bravo’s Housewives franchise are yet to be determined — and Marysol Patton is sharing words of wisdom to cast members waiting on standby.

“I think that when you do [reality television], you need to have other things going on in your life,” the Real Housewives of Miami star, 58, shared in an exclusive interview with Star. “This cannot be your only source of income — this is extra great money.”

According to Patton, reality stars would be wise to save up the funds they receive during their time filming. “When you bank on it 100 percent, or you start spending it like it’s going to keep coming, you’re going to get yourself in trouble,” she shares. “Prepare for the rainy day.”

The Real Housewives of Miami aired for three seasons on Bravo from 2011 to 2013 before it was canceled. However, in 2021, the series returned, airing on Peacock and returning to Bravo in its sixth season in 2023.

In May, fans noticed The Real Housewives of New Jersey and The Real Housewives of New York City were excluded from a press release announcing that The Real Housewives of Orange County, The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City and The Real Housewives of Potomac were renewed. (On June 3, Andy Cohen confirmed RHONJ was on a “deep pause” and that those in charge are “looking at the future of what that will be”.)

It was also revealed in the press release that a new show — The Real Housewives of Rhode Island — would be coming soon.

Meanwhile, the future of The Real Housewives of Dubai is also uncertain, with Cohen declaring in November 2024 that it was “smart business” to pause production following its second season.

During the time when RHOM was off the air, Patton didn’t take too much of a hit financially because the former Patton Group founder had multiple businesses.

“If your show is about to get canceled, I hope you have other stuff going on,” Patton — who recently invested in Locks & Mane — shared, explaining: “I always had other stuff going on… I’m never going to run out [of money] because I’m always afraid I’m going to run out. I’m very conservative.”

According to Patton, RHOM’s eight-year hiatus benefited the cast in more ways than one. “It was a good thing: We developed stronger friendships [and] relationships,” she tells Star. “We know each other so much better, which I think translates when you watch the show.”

Patton credits the resurgence and ongoing popularity of RHOM to the organic friendship between the women. “We’ve all been there for each other over the years —  you can’t just cast that,” she says. “I think people see through when people don’t know each other.”

“I feel like the one difference between us and all of the other shows is that we all really love each other, honestly,” she explains. “We have our fights [but] at the end of the day, we always rally for each other — and there’s a lot of love between us.”

Season 7 of RHOM premieres Wednesday, June 11 — and according to Patton, it’s their “best” season yet. “It’s fantastic,” she tells Star. “I even got a text from my big boss, Andy [Cohen], and he was like, ‘This season is so good.’ That was a first, that he would say that.”

So, what can fans expect this time around? “We have a new girl [Stephanie Shojaee] and she fits in great with the group,” Patton says. “There’s a lot of shifts in friendships, which is also very interesting to see — and a lot of new dynamics.”

Season 7 of The Real Housewives of Miami premieres Wednesday, June 11 on Bravo.
