In Ron’s explosive new tell all, Ruthless, he claims that David flew down to intentionally run into Tom and his then-wife Mimi Rogers — who already had family members in Scientology — in 1990.

“He was deeply impressed with the public relations potential that Cruise could lend to Scientology,” Ron said in the new book.

After Tom went skydiving with Scientology’s young Chairman of the Board, Tom, who was 27 at the time, began to convert to the controversial religion under his birth name, Thomas Mapother.

David, who was more than pleased to welcome the actor, ordered everyone to give Tom celebrity treatment. “David orchestrated every detail,” Ron said.

Upon Tom’s arrival to the church, David had a chef prepare a fancy dinner by the pool area that was designed to look like a sailboat. But Tom’s four-hour tardiness to the party made David “hit the roof.”

The following day, David quickly forgave Tom when the actor gave him an automatic skeet launcher as they were about to enjoy a day of skeet shooting at the compound’s rifle range. Since then, the pair have remained best friends.

But Ron is also accusing David of taking his own role too far — enjoying the celebrity experience himself with Tom. “David lives like a prince wherever he travels and flies first class or in Tom’s private jet,” Ron said, where as the rest of the staff live like “indentured servants, at best."
