On a drive from Crathie Kirk near Balmoral Castle in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, on Sunday, August 24, the royal, 43, showed off newly golden waves in photos obtained by People.
The look was a big change from the chestnut hue she sported at Wimbledon on July 12 and 13 — and one of her lightest looks ever.
Now, Star is revisiting what her longtime stylist, Richard Ward, has said about finding the perfect shade.
“If you’re trying to decide between shades of blonde, the most important things to consider are your skin tone, natural hair color and eye color,” Ward told Hello! in 2019.
“Your skin tone will either be warm, neutral or cool,” Ward — who did Kate’s hair for her April 29, 2011 wedding to Prince William — explained. “To figure it out, look at the veins on your wrist – if they’re green, then your skin tone is warm.”
If your veins are “bluey or purple, then you’re cool-toned,” he continued. “And if you can’t tell, you’re probably neutral.”
Most experts agree that warmer shades, like golden or honey, are best with warm tones, while ash and champagne blonde looks better on cool tones.
“Generally speaking, the lighter your complexion, the lighter you can go with your hair,” said Ward, who reportedly provided Kate with an at-home dying kit during the pandemic lockdown in 2020. However, he added: “Medium and dark complexions often suit richer, darker tones.”
Ward told Hello! that a multi-tonal “bronde” shade — like the one Kate is sporting now — is “universally flattering.”
