Jude Law and Vanessa Kirby Join Forces as Husband-and-Wife Duo in Ron Howard’s Darkly Funny ‘Eden’
In Eden — the latest project from director Ron Howard — Law, in a a scenery-chewing performance, plays the brilliant Dr. Friedrich Ritter. He flees 1920s Germany with his wife (Vanessa Kirby) to settle on the uninhabited Galápagos island of Floreana so he can focus on his book about how to save the world. But his solitude is disturbed by the arrival of acolytes Margret (Sydney Sweeney) and her husband, Heinz Wittmer (Daniel Brühl), followed by the even more disruptive Baroness Eloise (Ana de Armas), who brings an entourage of lovers and servants, piles of luggage and a plan to erect a luxury hotel… despite the island’s inhospitable weather, rampaging wild dogs and lack of amenities.
Ritter gets more and more unhinged with each new arrival — and formulates a plan to scare them away from his utopia, but the scheme quickly escalates into violence.
If you loved White Lotus but wished it had more ranting intellectuals and tons of zero-star Yelp reviews, you’ll enjoy this darkly funny movie.
