Jaime King is preparing to walk down the aisle again with investment banker Austin Sosa — but pals fear she could be “rushing” into an engagement too soon as she faces child custody issues in the wake of her contentious divorce.
“She may be divorced from Kyle [Newman], but they’re still dealing with issues related to custody of their boys. It’s a mess,” a source tells Star, referring to the Hart of Dixie actress, 46, recently losing custody of 11-year-old James and Leo, 9.
King currently has supervised visitation of her sons that she shares with Newman, who she was married to for 13 years from 2007 to 2020. The exes finalized their divorce in 2023, but have been embroiled in a bitter custody battle.
According to court documents obtained by In Touch, Newman, 49, filed for sole custody in October 2024, claiming he found his ex-wife “strung out” and “drunk” while caring for their boys.
In March, a judge ruled that King and Newman will share legal custody of their children, but the filmmaker will have sole physical custody, per court documents obtained by People. Along with her supervised visits, the Black Summer actress was required to finish six months of rehab for drugs and alcohol.
“Jaime is her own person, and her friends don’t want to interfere, but they worry,” the source adds, pointing to the White Chicks star dealing with hard times — including being forced out of her Los Angeles pad, per Us Weekly, for owing more than $42,000 in back rent in March. “She claims she’s sober and doing fine, but there are still the question marks.”

Sources tell Star that she has been staying with her husband-to-be’s parents due to her living situation, and it’s not “ideal.”
“She’s clearly indebted to Austin’s family and grateful for the help, but her friends think she should get her life in order and not rely on the charity of other people,” the insider says.
It’s unclear how long the couple has been together. King, however, was seen sporting her new dazzling diamond ring while leaving a West Hollywood salon on July 7 in photos published by People.
The month before, King gave her beau a subtle shout-out in an Instagram post which featured photos of the star with her boys.
“My God, I am the luckiest and most great [sic] mother ever. Thank you to Pammy, Chase, Austin, Gwendolyn and Carlos. Family forever,” she wrote on June 8.
It appears King is still going strong with Sosa, who graduated from Brigham Young University and is an investor, according to his LinkedIn.
“Austin seems to have his act together and a good job, no one is denying he’s a decent guy,” the source adds, “but the feeling is that what Jaime wants is to be rescued from her current predicament.”
