Gavin Rossdale gave some rare, candid insight into his co-parenting relationship with ex-wife Gwen Stefani.
The Bush frontman, 60, shares sonsKingston, 19, Zuma, 17, and Apollo, 12, with the No Doubt singer, 56, from their marriage, which ended in 2015. He’s also dad to daughter Daisy, 37, whom he shares with ex Pearl Lowe.
Speaking in an interview with Fox News Digital published on Monday, March 30, Rossdale explained that he and Stefani are trying their best to be good co-parents.
“It’s a two-lane highway, you know, but they don’t ever seem to merge, which is fine,” Rossdale told the outlet.
He noted that he’s not criticizing their current setup, noting that it completely works for both them and the kids at this stage in life.
“Probably doing the best she can, and I’m doing the best I can,” Rossdale continued. “And the kids are growing up, so I’m a proud proponent of the system. It’s fine.”
His and Stefani’s goal — even as she’s moved on with country superstarBlake Shelton, who she married in 2021 — are to make them “likeable.”
“I think that if you’ve got kids who are unlikable, they’ve got a tough life ahead, you know,” he explained. “Life is hard enough without being a jerk, without being kind of aware of other people, mindful of other people, considerate of other people, empathetic.”
“And so all those things that I try to do my best in my life to be… Just try to show by example with my kids, consistent friends, consistent people around and a sort of a steady approach to life,” the musician added.
The star concluded that he feels there’s a lot of pressure on young people today that he hopes he can help his kids navigate, along with Stefani.
