Full House’s Jodie Sweetin Says She Recently Got a ‘1-Cent’ Residual Check, Has Credit Cards That Are ‘Maxed Out’

Jodie Sweetin is opening up about life after Full House.

During the 44-year-old actress’ appearance on the Tuesday, April 21 episode of the McBride Rewind podcast, host Josh McBride asked Sweetin — best known for playing Stephanie Tanner on ABC’s Full House and the Netflix sequel series Fuller House — if she gets good residual checks.

“Not anymore. No,” she revealed. “I got a one-cent check the other day. No. There’s no syndication anymore because it’s all on streaming. Who gets paid for that? Nobody gets paid for that.”

While the mother of two noted that some people must think that she makes so much money from residuals for her work on the popular TV sitcom, Sweetin pointed out, “Maybe like the first run of syndication.”

“Sure, [in] my 20s, there would be money, but not reliable,” Sweetin said. “You don’t know how much it’s going to be or how often they’re going to run the show. So, sometimes you’re like, ‘Oh, cool! That was nice.’ And then sometimes you’re like, ‘All right, well… there’s a nice dinner out.’”

Payment from syndication is “not something you can rely on,” she said, explaining that she lives just like many others.

“People think I live some extravagant life,” she said. “I’m like, ‘Honey, I drive my 2023 used Hyundai Sonata that I love. I rent my house. I have credit cards that are maxed out.’ Like, I live a normal life.”

“There’s moments when you’re like, ‘This is going well,’ and there’s sometimes when you’re like, ‘I need a day job,’” she admitted.

Sweetin played Danny Tanner’s middle daughter Stephanie from age 5 until she was 13 years old on Full House, which aired for eight seasons from 1987 to 1995.

She reprised the role when Fuller House aired on Netflix for five seasons from 2016 to 2020. Outside of her time on Full House, Sweetin appeared in several Hallmark Channel movies, and she competed on Dancing With the Stars.
