Jodie Sweetin Reveals the ‘You Oughta Know’ Lyric That Made Her Realize Song Is About Dave Coulier

Did you know that Alanis Morissette’s “You Oughtta Know” is rumored to be about Full House alum Dave Coulier? Well, his TV niece Jodie Sweetin figured it out from a specific line in the hit ’90s song.

“Like, early on, he dated her way, way back in the day. She was like, super young. I think he was like 24 and she was like 18 or 19,” Sweetin, 44, said during a February 12 appearance on the Only Child with Bob the Drag Queen podcast. “She used to come to set. I vaguely remember her.”

Coulier, 66, and Morissette, 51, briefly dated in the early 1990s. The singer’s 1995 hit has long been rumored to be about their past romance, which Sweetin confirmed on the podcast.

“Well, the song came out the year after we wrapped it. It was like my high school year. I love that album,” she recalled. “Some of the lyrics in there I was like, ‘I know who that’s about.’”

According to Sweetin, the lyrics “An older version of me / Is she perverted like me?” instantly stood out to her as Coulier’s next girlfriend “looked rather similar” to the “Ironic” artist.

Coulier himself previously opened up about the song’s lyrics, telling Jim Norton and Sam Roberts on their SiriusXM radio show, “I went to the record store, bought the CD and I went and I parked on a street and I listened to the whole record.”

“I started listening to it and I thought, ‘Ooh, I think I may have really hurt this woman,’” he added during the 2022 interview.
