Jodie Sweetin is opening up about the moment her lifelong battle with addiction began — at the tender age of 14 — and it happened at the wedding of her Full House costar, Candace Cameron Bure.
On a Friday, November 20 episode of The Skinny Confidential podcast, Sweetin, 43, revealed she got “blackout” drunk for the first time while celebrating Bure’s 1996 nuptials to Valeri Bure.
“Well, the first time I ever drank, I was like 14… and it was at Candace’s wedding,” she said. “It was awful and it was ugly and it was embarrassing, and my mother was horrified.”
Sweetin, now 43, said a waiter kept refilling her glass while her mom was seated across the room, and the night spiraled pretty quickly.
“It was a lot of red wine, and the bathroom was very white,” she joked. “Not a good mix.”

But despite the humiliation, something “clicked,” Sweetin added. “I was like, ‘Ooooh, that was fun… you didn’t give a s**t about anything.’”
By the age of 15 or 16, Sweetin realized she partied far harder than her friends and sought out groups who could match her drug and alcohol use.
The former child star, who has been sober from alcohol for 16 years, says ADHD fueled her early dependence, not fame. When Full House was canceled in 1995, Sweetin said it threw her into a tailspin.
“I was looking for a way to make my brain work better,” she confided.
