This is turning out to be a very hectic year for the 19 Kids and Counting family all around.
Aspiring country-singer Amy Duggar, niece of Jim Bob Duggar and Michelle Duggar, announced her engagement to boyfriend Dillon King on July 13. Amy Duggar’s Instagram post was captioned: “I’m so happy to announce… WE ARE ENGAGED!!!!! He loves the Lord, he makes me laugh uncontrollably, he’s loyal, he’s patient, he’s my best friend! Of course I said yes!! I love you so much @kingdillpickle #DillandDuggsforever”
The 28-year-old’s boyfriend even shouted out his excitement from the rooftop about the engagement news on Instagram in the same hour with a collage of the engagement scene. “Well everyone… WE ARE ENGAGED!!!! @amyduggar I asked you to be my fiancee not just because I love you right now. I got down on one knee because you are the only woman I have and will truly love forever.!!! Xoxo.”
Amy obviously couldn’t hold in this secret for very long, just like she didn’t hold back admitting about her parents having her out of wedlock. She even made a statement on Instagram about the matter:
“The tabloids are telling the truth. My mom and dad did have me out of wedlock. Just because we are Christians doesn’t make us perfect, it just makes us forgiven,” Amy wrote. “Just because I share the Duggar name doesn’t mean my life is perfect! God knew my uncle would have a hit show and that somehow I would be apart of it. He knew my parents story would be told. How amazing is that?! Your testimony is everything. Everyone struggles, and sins differently. but Jesus paid it all!”
But Star readers know there’s more to this story.
On July 24, 1992, according to Washington County (Ark.) Chancert Court documents obtained by Star, Deanna asked for an order of protection against then boyfriend Terry, alleging he had threatened her two days earlier at work. “He said he was going to kick my ass if I didn’t allow him to see Amy,” Deanna claimed.
“I’ve never heard of any of the Duggars talk about this frightening episode,” a family insider tells Star. “It appears Deanna and Terry may have talked things out after she went to court, but she thought that someone would be driven to such rage that they would have supposedly threatened the lives of their own newborn child and girlfriend—in the hospital, no less—is beyond human comprehension.”
But Star also uncovered that Terry’s alleged explosion may be due to Deanna claiming that Terry “had [no] paternal [rights]” to see 5-year-old Amy back then.
“The real story may never get told,” the friend adds. “Deanna and Terry have obviously made peace with their past, and the Duggars seem to have closed ranks on that dark chapter in their family history.”
