One Direction will be short one of its five members during upcoming shows in Asia. The band’s rep announced Thursday that Zayn Malikwill be taking a break from the group’s current headlining world tour.
“Zayn has been signed off with stress and is flying back to the UK to recuperate,” the publicist announced. “The band wish him well and will continue with their performances in Manila and Jakarta.”
The news comes just one day after photos surfaced of the boy bander looking pretty chummy with a girl who wasn’t his fiancee, Perrie Edwards. The 22-year-old vehemently denied any cheating rumors, though, tweeting, “I love a girl named Perrie Edwards. And there’s a lot of jealous f—s in the world I’m sorry for what it looks like x.”
This isn’t the first time Zayn has been absent from a 1D appearance, either. In November, he skipped the band’s album release episode of the Today show in New York City, claiming to be sick with a stomach bug. However, at the time, rumors swirled that substance abuse rumors were actually to blame for Zayn’s absence (a story which the group also denied).
The singer is expected to return to the One Direction tour when it hits South Africa on March 28.
