He may have been at The Late Show with David Letterman to promote his new movie Captain Phillips, but during his Oct. 7 interview, Tom Hanks made a very surprising revelation. The actor shared that he has been diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes.
“I went to the doctor and he said, ‘You know those high blood sugar numbers you’ve been dealing with since you were 36? Well, you’ve graduated. You’ve got Type 2 diabetes, young man,'” Tom explained.
However, he managed to make light of the diagnosis a bit. “My doctor said, ‘Look, if you can weigh as much as you weighed in high school, you will essentially be completely healthy. You will not have Type 2 diabetes,'” he continued. “And then I said, ‘Well, then, I’m going to have Type 2 diabetes because there’s no way I can way as much as I did in high school!”
The 57-year-old’s weight has fluctuated for years, as he constantly took off and put on pounds for different movie roles.
