She can’t stop! Despite the negative criticism Miley Cyrus has gotten for her raunchy VMA performance with Robin Thicke, the 20-year-old is defending what she did on stage last Sunday.
“I don’t pay attention to the negative because I’ve seen this play out so many times,” she told MTV. “How many times have we seen this play out in pop music?”
The singer went on to give examples of her predecessors, like Madonna and Britney Spears, who went through the same thing after their own talked-about performances at the show. “Every VMA performance, that’s what you’re looking for — you’re wanting to make history,” she admitted.
She concluded by adding, “What’s amazing, I think, is that now we’re three days later and people are still talking about it. They’re overthinking it! You’re thinking about it more than I thought about it when I did it! I didn’t even think about it because that’s just me!”
Miley’s performance was so highly talked about due to her provocative dance moves and facial expressions, particularly those with Robin, who is 16 years her senior. Due to her reaction to the negativity, though, it looks like we can expect a lot more of this in the future…
