Kate Middleton is still laying low with newborn, Prince George, but her husband Prince William, is already gushing about fatherhood. The Duke of Cambridge gave his first sit-down interview since his son’s birth, which will premiere on CNN on Sept. 15.
Opening up about his new son, born July 22, William says, “He’s a little bit of a rascal, I’ll put it that way. He either reminds me of my brother [Prince Harry] or me when I was younger, I’m not sure, but he’s doing very well at the moment.” He adds that his son doesn’t like to sleep much, and so he’s excited to get back to work as a Royal Air Force search-and-rescue pilot to finally get some sleep.
Prince William made headlines after George’s birth when he secured the baby’s car seat in front of hundreds of onlookers. His hands-on approach since becoming a dad is certainly much more modern that what we’ve seen in the past from Britain’s monarchy. “I am as independent as I want to be, same as Catherine and Harry,” he explains. “We’ve all grown up differently to other generations and I very much feel that if I can do it myself, I want to do it myself. There are times where you can’t do it yourself and the system takes over, or its appropriate to do things differently. But I think driving your son and wife away from the hospital was really important to me.”
The prince adds that right now Kate and George are his main priority. “The past few weeks for me have been a very different emotional experience, something I never thought I would feel myself,” he reveals. “And I find, again it’s only been a short period, but a lot of things affect me differently now.”
