Her starring role as a police detective on Shades of Blue may have rubbed off on Jennifer Lopez, making her more suspicious than the average woman involved in a relatively new romance. Sources say J.Lo engaged a private investigator to make sure Alex Rodriguez is staying on the straight and narrow after a report that he was stepping out with fitness model Lauren Hunter.
“It’s not such a big deal for someone in her world to hire a detective,” an insider tells Star. “She really likes Alex but this is just for her peace of mind.”
J.Lo’s last two beaus — Casper Smart and Drake — were reportedly less than faithful to the diva, so perhaps she’s feeling burned. “Alex does have a playboy reputation, and Jennifer can’t afford any more embarrassing moments with straying men,” says the insider.
The trouble is, J.Lo’s secret spy wasn’t on top of his game — and Alex found out. “He was very hurt and got angry, knowing she didn’t trust him or believe him,” says the insider. “They had a huge fight — their first! — but when she threatened to walk, he calmed down.”
Bottom line, both J.Lo, 47, and A-Rod, 41 — who went public in March — want the relationship to work. “Alex likes being part of a power couple, and Jen is ready for a real relationship with someone appropriate,” the insider says. “So they cleared the air and are moving forward… for now!”
