It’s not every day you get to hang out with the President! Unfortunately, for Bradley Cooper, things didn’t go so smoothly when he attended a state dinner at the White House.
During an interview with Ellen DeGeneres, the actor admitted that his recent weight gain caused some problems for him on the night of the formal event. “I’m prepping for this new movie, and I’m trying to gain weight fast,” he explained. “So I’ve gained about 15 pounds in four weeks, and nothing fits me anymore — these pants barely fit me!”
The 39-year-old, who brought girlfriend Suki Waterhouse to the dinner, didn’t take that into consideration when getting dressed, though. “I wore the tuxedo that I wore to the Golden Globes,” he continued. “I just sort of threw it in the bag and brought it with me to Washington D.C. Then, I’m getting dressed ten minutes before we’re supposed to go, and literally — the pants go up to here [points to upper thighs]. I just started laughing actually. This is hilarious…because I’m going to meet the President!”
Luckily, he was able to solve the problem, but not without some wardrobe readjustment. “So I had to go commando,” he revealed, to the audience’s cheers. “Because there was no room at all!” He added, “You have to walk up all these stairs, and it was a nightmare! But, I made it through.”
