Mötley Crüe member Tommy Lee is opening up about how far his drug addiction spiraled at its worst.
Speaking on the latest episode of Armchair Expert With Dax Shepard, Lee, 63, discussed how deep into addiction he was, recalling a time when he and his bassist “were just doing a [expletive] load of heroin.”
At one point, the two ran out of their stash. “We ran out and it’s probably 3, 4 in the morning. We’re like, [expletive] dude, what are we gonna do?”
Not far away was a bottle of Jack Daniels whiskey. “The moment we unscrewed the cap on a bottle of Jack and filled up the cap with Jack and then pulled a couple syringes, and we’re shooting Jack Daniels,” the rocker recalled.
Lee remembered that in the moment just how dangerous the situation had become. “It was at that moment where I went, ‘OK we could just drink this, but we’re shooting it. This is [expletive] wrong and somebody’s going to die.”
Dax Shepard, who has spoken publicly about his own addiction to opiates, asked whether injecting alcohol with a syringe produces a different effect than drinking it.

“Yeah, you could taste it, like you taste heroin,” Lee said, adding that it had an “oaky” flavor.
Although Lee did not identify the bassist he was referring to, Mötley Crüe’s bassist was Nikki Sixx. The pair were famously known as the “Terror Twins” for their partying ways.
Shepard related to Lee’s story, recalling that “getting off” opiates was a “horrendous” challenge. “It’s just beyond,” he said.
