Teddi Mellencamp Opens Up About Mental Health Struggles Amid Stage 4 Cancer and Recent COVID Battle

Teddi Mellencamp is bravely sharing the toll her recent health challenges have taken on her mental well-being.

On Tuesday, September 16, the former Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star, 44, revealed on her Diamonds in the Rough podcast that a “brutal” case of COVID-19 left her feeling deeply hopeless while already battling stage 4 melanoma.

“I got COVID, which, I’m good now, but then I started feeling extreme, extreme depression,” Mellencamp told co-host Erika Jayne. “I called my psychiatrist. My dad flew in his assistant to be with me. But I haven’t ever felt like that.”

The mother of three admitted she cried every day during her COVID illness, describing herself as “paralyzed” by brain fog and too afraid to ask for help. Her psychiatrist adjusted her medication and reminded her that “nobody really knows” the weight she is carrying.

Adding to her woes, Mellencamp has previously shared that she has a 50-50 prognosis of beating cancer.

Jayne — who also spoke about her own mental health struggles — reassured Mellencamp that she’s not alone. “The gravity of what you’ve gone through is hitting you right now,”  said Jayne.

Mellencamp, who learned earlier this year that her cancer has spread to her brain and lungs, acknowledged the feelings were “scary,” but emphasized she’s continuing to push forward with honesty and courage.

As Star previously reported, Mellencamp said that news of talent manager Brandon Blackstock’s recent passing hit her “hard” as the two shared the same stage 4 melanoma diagnosis.
