Teddi Mellencamp Says Brandon Blackstock’s Death Hit ‘Hard’ as They Shared the Same Cancer Diagnosis
Brandon Blackstock’s death hit close to home for Teddi Mellencamp as she fights her own battle against stage 4 melanoma.
On the Wednesday, August 13, installment of her Two T’s in a Pod podcast show, the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills alum, 44, admitted that hearing the news of the talent manager’s passing sent her mind into a flurry of questions.
“I wish I had missed that little detail on the World Wide Web because then I started doing research,” she explained. “I was wondering when did it metastasize, like, is this just where my head goes from being in the [same] situation? Did he decline treatment?”
“There’s so many different ways this could have happened,” she added, “and I one million [percent] respect their choice of keeping it private.”
Mellencamp, who was diagnosed with cancer in 2022, revealed that Blackstock’s story specifically “hit” her “hard” as it was so similar to her own health journey. One notable similarity is that she also has children, Slate, 12, Cruz, 10, Dove, 5, who she shares with ex Edwin Arroyave.
“Kelly [Clarkson] made it clear when she rescheduled the end of her tour in [Las] Vegas because she needs to be there for her kids,” Mellencamp added. “You want to support your children, and that’s what I think we do when it comes to illness.”
As Star previously reported, Clarkson took to Instagram on August 6 to announce that she would be postponing the remainder of her August shows for her Studio Sessions residency in Las Vegas. The following day, it was confirmed that Blackstock had passed away after a three-year battle with cancer.
Despite their messy split in 2020, the “Because of You” singer wanted her kids – River, 11, and Remington, 9 – to have the “best relationship possible” with their dad.
“When she found out that he was sick, she remained protective of him for their sake,” an insider told People at the time. “It became clear earlier this year that Brandon was not doing well. She’s been devastated for the kids.”
