When asked about her possible participation in the 2028 Summer Olympics held in Los Angeles, the famed gymnast told CNN Sports, “I feel like we’re still at a 50-50.”
In Biles’ Thursday, April 29, interview with the news organization, the 29-year-old athlete acknowledged that she’s “on a time crunch here now” since it’s almost halfway through 2026.
The 11-time Olympic medalist, who last competed in the 2024 games held in Paris, previously withdrew from the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo after experiencing the “twisties” (or losing her spacial awareness while in the air) and feeling the pressure that came with competing.
While she noted that she’s “going to have to make these decisions pretty quickly” when it comes to the upcoming LA28, she said, “Mental health plays a big role in it because, physically, my coaches will get me in shape.”

“I can get myself in shape,” Biles said. “We believe in that ability. We’re really thankful that I’m still healthy. Mental is a huge thing and it’s a lot of dedication on that because the road’s not easy. It’s long, but it’s still work.”
During her CNN Sports interview, Biles also discussed the “pivotal moment” the world watched her go through what she called a “mental health crisis” in Tokyo.
“I feel like it showed the realness to me because everyone thought I was a robot, she’s not real, but it’s like, down to the core, I’m just like you guys. I’m real,” she explained.
Biles said that after withdrawing from the Tokyo games, she got “the therapy that I deserved,” adding: “I’m still currently in therapy.”
“I had a lot of help and my core group was really helpful in letting me know that it’s OK people go through this and you’re just human,” she said. “Gymnasts aren’t viewed as people who have weaknesses, and that was the first time that weakness was displayed on a global stage like that.”
“Now, I look at it as being courageous and not so much a weakness,” she said.
The 2028 Summer Olympics is scheduled to take place from July 14 to 30, 2028, in Los Angeles.
