Prince Andrew has agreed to vacate the Royal Lodge amid outrage that he doesn’t pay rent — which means his ex-wife, Sarah “Fergie” Ferguson will need a new place to live as well, The Sun reported on Sunday, October 26.
“Incredibly, Sarah has said she wants Adelaide Cottage,” a friend told the outlet of the former duchess, 66.
Prince William and Princess Kate are due to vacate the four-bedroom Adelaide Cottage, which is on the grounds of Windsor Castle, in a month when they move to their new nearby home, Forest Lodge.
“Sarah and Andy have lived together at Royal Lodge since 2008 despite being divorced and seen like they are still a married couple,” the friend told The Sun of the pair, who both recently relinquished their titles because of continued backlash over their connection to late convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein.
Andrew, 65, has indicated he wants to move to nearby Frogmore Cottage, but it’s “too small for both and Adelaide Cottage is around the corner so they will see each other whenever they want,” the source told the outlet, noting that they will both have space for their daughters, princesses Eugenie and Beatrice, to visit with their families.
“It’s incredible that they are willing to go their own separate ways,” the friend added to The Sun, “but it indicates that they have been under immense strain this year and need a break from one another. It’s a fresh start for both.”
A spokesperson for Fergie shared a statement to People addressing the reports of an email she wrote calling Epstein a “supreme friend” in 2011: “The Duchess spoke of her regret about her association with Epstein many years ago, and as they have always been her first thoughts are with his victims. Like many people, she was taken in by his lies. As soon as she was aware of the extent of the allegations against him, she not only cut off contact but condemned him publicly, to the extent that he then threatened to sue her for defamation for associating him with paedophilia. She does not resile from anything she said then. This email was sent in the context of advice the Duchess was given to try to assuage Epstein and his threats.”
