Rob Gronkowski has been financially savvy over the years.
On Tuesday, December 30, the Bussin’ with the Boys podcast posted a clip on X from when the retired athlete, 36, appeared on the show in May and confirmed it was “technically” true that he hasn’t spent any of the money he made in the NFL. During the podcast episode, the former New England Patriots tight end explained that he didn’t live above his means.
His longtime sports agent, Drew Rosenhaus, “actually gave me a $50,000 upfront marketing budget at the beginning, and you’ve got to pay him back over time, the first 50 grand you made,” Gronkowski shared. “I actually took that 50 grand and I bought me a car, I paid for my spot up in New England, actually, with it.”

The four-time Super Bowl champion described himself as “very frugal” and noted he “lived with a roommate” for the “first couple years” after joining the NFL.
“I didn’t know how long the NFL was gonna last,” Gronkowski admitted. “I was a second round pick, so it was like a four-year, $4 million deal, and I was like, if I can play this contract out, I’ll be set for life.”

“I just always wanted to save it, and I just used my money that I was getting off the field to just spend it on whatever I needed to spend it on,” he added. “To this day, technically, I have not spent any of my NFL money.”
Gronkowski had an illustrious NFL career, playing with the Patriots for nine seasons before retiring in 2019. In 2022, he returned to the sport and played two seasons for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He officially retired as a member of the Patriots after signing a one-day contract in November.
