Kim Richards' Disturbing Past Catches Up To Her After Ex-Husband's Tragic Death — Find Out Why She's Heartbroken Again

Just weeks after her ex-husband Monty Brinson's death, her first fiancée's killer appeared before the California Board of Parole to ask for his freedom — and 51-year-old Kim is devastated.

Kim's ex, John J. Collett, was gunned down in California's San Fernando Valley in October 1991. Marva De Carlo Johnson, then 29, was arrested and sentenced to 30-years-to-life behind bars for shooting him to death.

Marva, now 54, denied killing John, 29, on purpose in front of the parole board last September, saying that John was "some kind of gangster and I feared for that.”

He also denied that he was a hired hitman paid off to John, and "didn't have a choice" in the killing. He claims that John flashed a gun at him after he refused to cooperate in his money-laundering plan. Marva alleged that then he grabbed the gun, and police reported that he shot John three times in the head.

During his parole hearing, he admitted to having anger issues and claimed that he had written a letter of remorse — but he wasn't "fighting to get out of prison." He read from the letter, saying that he is “sorry for the pain and suffering” Kim and John's family have dealt with, and that he is not "the individual who caused so much anguish" anymore.

Despite his testimony, the commission said he was“not being honest with himself or the panel” and rated him a “moderate risk” for release, citing their belief that he was a hired hitman.

He was denied parole.

“You just want to take a long look at how you’re going to get out of this mess,” one commissioner told Marva.

Marva will be up for parole again in three years.
