He claims that John flashed a gun at him after he refused to cooperate in his money-laundering plan. Marva alleged that then he grabbed the gun, and police reported that he shot John three times in the head.

During his parole hearing, he admitted to having anger issues and claimed that he had written a letter of remorse — but he wasn't "fighting to get out of prison." He read from the letter, saying that he is “sorry for the pain and suffering” Kim and John's family have dealt with, and that he is not "the individual who caused so much anguish" anymore.
