The Canadian began “Emotionless” addressing the betrayal he felt from Pusha T, who he’d been a lifelong fan of. He rapped, “The people I look up to are goin' from bad to worse / Their actions out of character even when they rehearse.” The song’s hook is sampled from
Mariah Carey‘s hit song “Emotion.”

In the second verse, Drake defended his decision to keep Adonis’ birth secret. The lyrics read, “I wasn't hidin' my kid from the world / I was hidin' the world from my kid / From empty souls who just wake up and looked to debate / Until you starin' at your seed, you can never relate.”

The rapper also expressed his angst over being an unmarried father. His lyrics read, “Single father, I hate when I hear it / I used to challenge my parents on every album / Now I'm embarrassed to tell them I ended up as a co-parent / Always promised the family unit.” Drake also said he only met his son “one time,” at Christmas. “I think he must've brought you like twenty gifts,” he explained.

At the end he directed his message to his son. “Hopefully by the time you hear this me and your mother will have come around / Instead of always cutting each other down.” Apparently, Drake and Sophie need to work some of their issues out.
