Nicole Kidman is healing her own heart as she studies to become a death doula, reveals an insider.
The Practical Magic 2 beauty announced her surprising new career path — noting it was inspired by the “lonely” passing of her mother, Janelle Ann Kidman — at the University of San Francisco’s Silk Speaker Series on Saturday, April 11, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.
“It’s brought her a lot of peace to understand death on a deeper level,” the insider tells Star. “Nicole has also found comfort in the idea of being able to help other people.”
During a HISTORYTalks event on Saturday, April 18, in Philadelphia, Kidman explained the “fascinating” role of a death doula was to help “people in the end stage of life,” per People.
“It’s helping the families,” she added. “It’s being present, impartial.”

The Oscar winner hinted to the HISTORYTalks crowd that she could’ve used one, recalling how her mom’s 2024 death at age 84 left her “completely devastated.”
“She’s still processing her grief over it,” notes Star’s insider. “But Nicole is finding a way to turn her pain into something so meaningful.”
According to the insider, pals consider the 58-year-old’s altruistic resolve all the more impressive considering she just finalized her split from Keith Urban — with whom she shares daughters Sunday Rose, 17, and Faith Margaret, 15 — in January.
“Nicole has been at rock bottom yet somehow, she’s kept chugging along — working, taking care of her girls and even managing to get divorced without it turning into a drawn-out court battle,” marvels the insider. “Her friends are so proud of the overall grace she’s shown in the last two years.”
