Done up in loose blonde curls and showing plenty of curves, Miley Cyrus looked a bit like Marilyn Monroe in the most recent issue of French Vogue.
Of course, the 32-year-old chatted about style with the fashion bible, revealing that she’s never been one to follow trends. “As a teenager, I worked a lot, and I didn’t grow up with groups of friends,” the Hannah Montana alum recalled of her time making the Disney show. “It had it’s drawbacks, but it saved me from having to go through that phase where you follow the herd, where you have to wear a certain piece of clothing because it was fashionable. Honestly, what’s the point?”

The “Flowers” singer feels bad for young people today who are pressured by social media. “Unfortunagely, today, social media wants to instill this cult of trends in younger people,” she lamented to the mag. “Big mistake: It’s by staying true to who you are that you can stand out from the crowd.”

It’s a lesson she said her famous godmother Dolly Parton also shared. “She signed with a record label as a teenager, she’s always worn wigs and her hyper-feminine look,” admired Miley.
“One time, I remember proudly telling her that I’d done this and that in high heels. And she replied, ‘Honey, I do everything in high heels!’ At almost 80, she still wears them. She’s my hero. Unlike her, I’m always changing my look… but we have in common that we follow our own ideas and ignore other people’s expectations.”
