Meryl Streep ‘Trying to Help’ Martin Short in the Wake of Daughter’s Death ‘in Any Way Possible’
In the wake of Martin Short’s personal tragedy — the shocking loss of daughter Katherine, 42, to suicide in February — Meryl Streep is doing her best to show up for her boyfriend of two-plus years.
“It’s an uphill task,” says a source. “Martin’s been beating himself up and wondering what he could have done. But everyone knows he was an incredibly loving and supportive dad. It’s been hell for Meryl to see him like this.”
Martin, 75, adopted Katherine, along with sons Oliver, 39, and Henry, 36, with his wife Nancy Dolman, who passed away in 2010.
The source says the devastated Only Murders in the Building actor is asking for space to grieve, a request that Meryl, 76, “will honor, of course.” Adds the source, “Martin’s spirit has been crushed to pieces. Meryl’s been checking in and trying to help in any way possible.”
