Meghan Markle is reportedly taking a central role in the planned television film about her mother-in-law, stepping into the project just as tensions with Prince William continue to simmer.
In the Saturday, September 5 edition of journalist Rob Shuter‘s Naughty But Nice Substack, sources claimed Markle, 45, will narrate the project, which is being developed ahead of the 30th anniversary of Princess Diana’s death in 2027.
“Meghan isn’t getting a cameo — she’s becoming the voice of Diana’s story,” a production insider said. “That makes her a central figure in the film. Harry may be the son, but Meghan will be the voice viewers hear.”
Naughty But Nice also claimed Harry and Markle are working on the project together.
An insider said, “They believe there are powerful parallels between Diana’s battles with the palace and press and their own experience. Meghan’s narration makes that perspective impossible to separate from the film.”

Markle’s reported involvement comes as Harry’s relationship with William remains strained.
As Star previously reported, the brothers appeared to have no communication during Harry’s recent return to Britain, and William has made no public acknowledgment of his brother’s return to the U.K.
A handwritten letter sold by Reeman Dansie Auctions in June revealed Diana’s thoughts about teaching William and Harry communication and understanding.
The reported film could now place Diana’s legacy back at the center of the brothers’ complicated relationship. “William believes Diana’s legacy belongs to him,” a royal source told Naughty But Nice.

“Harry making his own film is one thing. Meghan becoming the narrator of their mother’s story is something else entirely. That will be extremely difficult for William.”
Neither Harry nor Markle has publicly confirmed the project. Meanwhile, Harry, 41, and Meghan’s return to the U.K. led King Charles III, 77, to restate their royal status in formal guidance, confirming that they remain non-working members of the royal family and will not use their HRH styles, as reported by the BBC.
