Meghan Markle Became Jealous of Princess Kate at This Moment, Says Royal Butler

The relationship between Meghan Markle and her sister-in-law Princess Kate has been ice cold for years now, and royal butler Paul Burrell thinks he knows when the chill first set in. Burrell, 67, a former footman for Queen Elizabeth II and butler to Princess Diana, is telling all in his upcoming book The Royal Insider, and an excerpt published by the Daily Mail digs into the rift between the former Suits star, 44, and the Princess of Wales, 43.

Burrell takes readers back to when Meghan and Prince Harry were newly engaged. “Meghan seemed to have saved him,” he writes. The California native had moved in with Harry at Nottingham Cottage, a small, 17th century, two bedroom house on the grounds of Kensington Palace. Nicknamed “Nott Cott,” it is where Harry, 40, popped the question over roast chicken in 2017. (Post-Megxit, on their 2022 Netflix special Harry & Meghan, the couple joked about the “really low ceilings” where Harry would hit his head.)

Prince William and Kate resided in Kensington Palace’s apartment 1A at the time, and according to Burrell, though close in proximity, their digs were a world away. Meghan got wind of her in-laws newly renovated luxury apartment, complete with a ballroom, the first time she and Harry were invited over for dinner, writes Burrell, and, “This may be where the trouble began.”
