Justin Timberlake is taking Britney Spears’ side following her ex-husband Kevin Federline’s explosive tell-all, a source tells Star.
The “Cry Me A River” singer, 44, “thinks it’s despicable that Kevin’s hitting her with all these terrible insults and sleazy revelations about their time together while she’s at her lowest,” says the source.
As Star previously reported, Federline, 47, accuses the pop star, 43, of doing cocaine while she was still breastfeeding and claims that their sons — Sean Preston, 20, and Jayden James, 19 — were afraid to sleep at her house in his memoir, You Thought You Knew.
And while Timberlake is “not especially close” to the “Toxic” singer anymore — and was “frustrated” about the intimate details she shared in her own memoir — says the source, “he’s still got a soft spot and a lot of sympathy towards Britney.”
The “What Goes Around… Comes Around” singer, who dated his Mickey Mouse Club costar from 1999 to 2002, publicly apologized to Spears in 2021 for his behavior, saying that he knows he “failed” her.
“Seeing her suffer makes him sad. It’s clear to him that the last thing she needs right now is being savaged by her ex,” adds the source.
“Justin has always thought Kevin was a freeloading dhebag and this book he’s written only proves that point.”
A representative for Spears shared a statement with People on Tuesday, October 14, regarding Federline’s memoir.
“With news from Kevin’s book breaking, once again he and others are profiting off her and sadly it comes after child support has ended with Kevin,” the statement read. “All she cares about are her kids, Sean Preston and Jayden James and their well-being during this sensationalism. She detailed her journey in her memoir [The Woman in Me].”
