Jennifer Love Hewitt Addresses Sarah Michelle Gellar Feud, Says They Haven’t Talked Since 1997

Jennifer Love Hewitt is making it clear there is no bad blood between her and fellow ’90s icon Sarah Michelle Gellar.

Hewitt, 46, put the rumors to rest regarding a feud between her and Gellar, 48, in a profile for Vulture, published on Friday, July 18 — the same day the fourth installment of the I Know What You Did Last Summer franchise comes out.

The two beloved actresses co-starred in the original 1997 horror film together, and Hewitt admitted they haven’t communicated since.

“I honestly don’t even know what that was or how that all came to be. I just think people don’t want the narrative to be easy,” Hewitt told the outlet. “Why do we always have to be against each other and out for each other?”

“I haven’t seen Sarah. Literally, we’ve not talked since I saw her at 18 years old when the first movie came out,” she added. “That’s why it’s so funny to me. People were like, ‘Say something back.’ And I’m like, ‘What am I going to say? I’ve not seen her.’ On my side, we’re good. I have no idea where this is coming from.”

The Can’t Hardly Wait actress shared an Instagram post on Thursday, July 17, in honor of the new slasher movie and gave a shout-out to her former castmates from the first film — which includes Ryan Phillippe, and Gellar’s husband, Freddie Prinze Jr.

“It’s time! The wait is over! 27 years ago I said what I thought was goodbye to Southport and good bye to an incredible experience,” Hewitt wrote in her caption. “To everyone in the original cast you hold a special place in my teenage heart.”

On Monday, July 14, both the Ghost Whisperer alum and the Cruel Intentions actress attended the Los Angeles premiere of the film. However, they did not get a chance to chat — and Gellar explained why.

“For everyone asking – I never got to see @jenniferlovehewitt who is fantastic in the movie,” the Buffy the Vampire Slayer star wrote in a comment on Instagram. “I was inside with my kids when the big carpet happened. And unfortunately JLH didn’t come to the after party.”

“If you have ever been to one of these it’s crazy. I sadly didn’t get pics with most of the cast,” she added. “But that doesn’t change how amazing I think they all are. Unfortunately some things happen only in real life and not online.”
