Tyra Banks didn’t come off as very remorseful in the recent documentary Reality Check: Inside America’s Next Top Model. However, the supermodel and host did apologize to contestant Keenyah Hill, who was rattled on the show by an overly aggressive male model. “Keenyah, boo, boo, I am so sorry,” said the 52-year-old. “None of us knew.”

Now Jay Manuel, the modeling contest’s creative director, is sharing his own regrets. Watching the doc, the 53-year-old wrote in The New York Times, made him see the power dynamics in the show. At the Keenyah shoot, for instance, he says, “I had more power in that situation than she did” and should have stepped in. “Keenyah deserved that.”
As for his frayed relationship with Tyra, Jay says he continues to respect her influence on fashion and TV, but has to be “honest about the complicated reality of the .. dynamics surrounding the show.”
