J.K. Simmons Reveals He Has ‘Not Met Tom Holland’ Despite Acting in His Spider-Man Movies
J.K. Simmons and Tom Holland haven’t crossed paths in the Spider-Verse.
The Whiplash actor, 71, starred as J. Jonah Jameson in Tobey Maguire‘s Spider-Man trilogy, and reprised his role for Holland’s two films, Spider-Man: Far From Home in 2019 and Spider-Man: No Way Home in 2021.
However, while appearing on the Thursday, July 9 episode of the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Simmons revealed, “I have not met Tom Holland.”
“Delightful guy, I’m told,” he smiled.
Host Josh Horowitz teased, “I’ve spent more time with Tom Holland than you. This is wrong,” to which the Oscar winner jokingly agreed, “Yeah, it is. It totally is.”
The Being the Ricardos star explained that his involvement in the latest iteration of Spider-Man came late in the movie-making process.
“That was a complete shock and a very last-minute decision. Which I still think is why JJJ doesn’t have hair in the Tom Holland Spider-Man universe,” he theorized. “They literally, like, called my agent, we had a meeting the next day, and it was like a day or two later I was shooting in somebody’s office, some executive’s office on the lot because there was no set … They were well into editing the film when they went, ‘What if we stuck a little JJ in here?'”
It seems Simmons might have to meet Holland, 30, outside of work, as he recently confirmed he did not film any scenes for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which hits theaters Thursday, July 30.
“Not in it, dude,” Simmons told ComicBook in an interview this month. “I don’t know who on the internet decided that that was fact, but I ain’t in it.”
