If you were one of the many people who didn’t like the ending of Game of Thrones, you can keep it to yourself as far as Kit Harington is concerned.
The Industry star — who got his big break playing Jon Snow in all eight seasons of the HBO fantasy drama — revealed in an interview with the New York Times that he was “genuinely angered” by a petition that circulated after the 2019 finale, which urged the network to remake Season 8 with “competent writers.”
“Like, how dare you?” Harington, 39, said in the interview, published on January 11, per People. “Sorry, that’s just how I feel. I think it was a level of idiocy that can only come about through social media.”
Many fans criticized the final season for feeling rushed, having plotlines and resolutions that felt unsatisfying or even unearned. At the time of its airing, Harington — who has been open about his issues with addiction and is now sober — was in rehab, and it wasn’t until he got out that he had to deal with how much vitriol there was among fans of the series.
In a GQ interview from 2024, he noted that he understands it may have felt a little too sped along, but explained there wasn’t another option.

“I think if there was any fault with the end of Thrones, is that we were all so fing tired, we couldn’t have gone on longer. And so I understand some people thought it was rushed and I might agree with them. But I’m not sure there was any alternative,” he said at the time.
Since the finale of Game of Thrones, two spinoffs — House of the Dragon and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms — have been developed. So, it seems there’s still no shortage of fans of the world of Westeros despite the divisive way the flagship series ended.
