Claire Danes confessed that she had a “meltdown” when she discovered she was pregnant with her third child at 44.
“I called my OBGYN in convulsive tears,” the Homeland alum, now 46, revealed on the Tuesday, January 27 episode of the Good Hang with Amy Poehler podcast.
“None of this was by design. I didn’t know it was physically possible,” said Danes, who already had sons Cyrus, now 13, and Rowan, now 7, with her husband, Hugh Dancy. “And actually, Rowan was very hard-earned. I had to do two rounds of IVF. It just was so unlikely.”

The Beast in Meactress added that the night before taking the pregnancy test, she had even told her best friend that she suspected she might be expecting again despite the odds being so low — and the friend revealed she’d had a dream featuring Danes’ swollen belly.
“I had two strong cocktails when we had dinner and then first thing in the morning I hit the CVS,” she added, noting that the pregnancy test “was just, like, bold-caps-lock, you know, ‘pregnant’ and I burst in to tears.”
Danes described her pregnancy as “deeply humbling” and said she was delighted when “this beautiful girl emerged” in 2023.

Though she and Dancy, 50, have not officially announced their daughter’s name, the Emmy award winner referred to her as Shay twice during the discussion.
As Star previously reported, last year Danes also spoke about being “terrified” about the third pregnancy on the SmartLess podcast, cohosted by Poehler’s ex, Will Arnett.
