A sense has begun to set in that Alex Cooper is “trying to do too much” amid her expanding empire, a source tells Star.
“She is a popular personality with a significant global following, and some A-listers are happy to show up on Call Her Daddy to give candid long-form interviews, but none of that automatically translates into smoothly becoming a media mogul, which is clearly her goal,” says the source.
In addition to hosting the podcast, Cooper, 31, has launched The Unwell Network, Unwell Hydration, Unwell Productions and Unwell Creative Agency.
She also just announced on Instagram that she’s expecting her first child with husband and business partner Matt Kaplan, who was recently accused of berating staff in a bombshell Bloomberg News report.
“It’s obvious that Matt is driving a lot of these efforts, and he does have genuine Hollywood experience,” the source says of the 42-year-old film producer. “But none of this is growing in the organic way that made Alex a star in the first place.”

The “timing” of Cooper and Kaplan’s “overall growth plan is questionable” too, notes Star‘s source, especially when “the rest of Hollywood is in contraction mode.”
“Since podcasts experienced their last growth spurt during the pandemic, the landscape is littered with companies that bit off way more than they could chew and lost sight of what made them popular in the first place,” the source explains.
“Nobody wants to see that happen to Alex,” adds the source, “but her ambition to become way bigger than just the Call Her Daddy show has gone totally unchecked so far.”
