Britney Spears may be headed to a treatment center.
“Britney clearly needs help, and a lot of people in her world are saying the best path for her right now is rehab,” a source tells Star of the “Toxic” singer, who was arrested for driving under the influence on Wednesday, March 4.
“There’s a growing feeling this was a cry for help, whether she’s caring to admit that now or not,” adds the source. “Bottom line is that she’s extremely fragile, self care has been a major problem for Britney going back many years now. She needs tools to reset and start afresh, so a treatment facility seems like an extremely sensible option.”
The 44-year-old, who has raised eyebrows for her erratic behavior online over the past few months, was reportedly “crying a lot” when she was booked early on the morning of Thursday, March 5, according to TMZ.
“This was an unfortunate incident that is completely inexcusable,” her representative told Starthat same day. “Britney is going to take the right steps and comply with the law and hopefully this can be the first step in long overdue change that needs to occur in Britney’s life. Hopefully, she can get the help and support she needs during this difficult time.”
“Her boys are going to be spending time with her,” the rep added of Sean Preston, 20, and Jayden James, 19. “Her loved ones are going to come up with an overdue needed plan to set her up for success for well being.”

In her 2023 memoir, The Woman In Me, the pop star revealed that she was secretly forced to go to rehab in 2014 and 2019 for her use of over-the-counter energy supplements, per Vanity Fair.
“I believe my father started to think that I had a problem with those energy supplements, even though they were over-the-counter, not prescription,” she wrote of Jamie Spears, who was in control of her controversial 13-year conservatorship, which ended in 2021. “So he told me I had to get off them, and he sent me to rehab.”
“A lot of people at the facility were serious drug addicts. I was scared to be there by myself,” she continued, slamming her dad for “throwing me away, putting me against my will into a place with crack and heroin addicts. I’ll just say it—he was horrible.”
