Brian Austin Green Recalls ‘Extremely Tumultuous’ Relationship with Ex Vanessa Marcil

Brian Austin Green is opening up about his “tumultuous” breakup from fellow Beverly Hills, 90210 alum Vanessa Marcil.

“I learned a lot from my previous relationship,” Green said of the former General Hospital star, whom he dated from 1999 to 2003. The ex couple share a son Kassius, 23.

“It was a very tumultuous separation, because you have this thing in your head of like, you want to win,” Green said during the Inside of You with Michael Rosenbaum podcast on Tuesday, November 25. “You want to be the smarter of the two and you want to be acknowledged for that. So you’ve got these unrealistic expectations and both of us did. So it was extremely tumultuous.”

Green, 52, and Marcil, 57, met on the set of Beverly Hills, 90210, becoming engaged in 2001, and breaking up in 2003 after welcoming their only child together. Green is now engaged to Dancing with the Stars pro Sharna Burgess, with whom he shares 3-year-old son Zane.

The ex-couple have long been entangled in legal battles: In 2018, Marcil claimed that Green had previously sued her for full custody of their son and in 2023, that she had raised Kassius alone, allegations that Green called “lies.” In May 2025, Green called his relationship with Marcil “toxic” on an episode of his Oldish podcast.

Austin shares children Noah, 13, Bodhi, 11, and Journey, 9, with his ex-wife Megan Fox, whom he called a great co-parent on the Tuesday podcast.

“We just co-parent well,” Green said of Fox, 39. “We kind of stay out of each other’s way.”
