Doogie Howser is definitely all grown up! Neil Patrick Harris hosted the 87th Annual Academy Awards on Sunday and did not disappoint, captivating the crowd with his singing — and his stripping!
The How I Met Your Mother star elicited giggles from the audience when he opened the show by announcing that, “Today we honor Hollywood’s best and whitest — sorry! — brightest!”, before launching into a full-on musical number, for which he was joined by Anna Kendrick and Jack Black.
The “Moving Pictures” song, that the 41-year-old actor belted out, Broadway style, incorporated interactive special effects, from dodging Sharon Stone’s crossing leg, to spying on Demi Moore and Patrick Swayze during their sexy Ghost scene. There was even a funny nod to Ben Affleck and Matt Damon’s bromance mixed into the Tinseltown tribute!
But, in arguably the best part of the evening, after getting locked out of his dressing room with his robe caught in the door, the Emmy winner hurried down the hall in nothing but tighty whities, ala Birdman, passing a feverishly drumming Miles Teller from Whiplash along the way. “Not my tempo!” Harris playfully scolded him, poking fun at J.K Simmons’ character from the Oscar-nominated film.
Met with uproarious laughter and cheers once onstage in his skivvies, the Tony award winner declared that, “Acting is a noble profession.” Yeah, Neil, from the looks of it — not so much!
