Step aside, Duggars — the Bates are here!
The 19 Kids and Counting family is currently under fire for their views and vocal opinions of the LGBT community. In fact, a Change.org petition has even been started to get TLC to cancel the hit show. “The Duggars have been using their fame to promote discrimination, hate and fear-mongering against gays and transgendered people,” wrote Jim Wissick, who started the petition. “You need to take a stand on the side of justice and cancel their show.”
While TLC has not commented, the petition has already gained thousands of signatures, many recently being added recently after the Duggars reportedly deleted photos of same-sex couples kissing that were posted to their Facebook page.
Don’t worry, though — if 19 Kids does ever get axed, there’s another family ready to take over! Bringing Up Bates will air on UP this January, and has a similar concept: A reality show about an ultra-conservative family with 19 kids.
The Bates family has actually appeared on 19 Kids and Counting previously, and even had a brief TLC show of their own.
(And don’t fret Duggar fans — 19 Kids has been a ratings gold mine for TLC, so it’ll probably take a lot for the network to consider cancellation).
