'RHOA' Season 7, Episode 1 Recap

Things weren’t so peachy for everyone on the season seven premiere of The Real Housewives of Atlanta!

For starters, newlyweds Kandi Burruss and Todd Tucker bicker back and forth, over both parenting styles and whether or not fellow cast member Phaedra Parks should have accompanied her husband, Apollo Nida, to his sentencing for a federal fraud conviction.

Meanwhile, a deeply disconnected Phaedra moves into a hotel on the morning of Apollo’s sentencing to avoid exposing her children to the paparazzi outside her home. Naturally, her husband is not unhappy. “You abandoned me,” he whines. His wife, however, reminds him who paid his legal bills (Hint: it’s her) before delivering a cold and resolute, “Bye bye!” to her husband, who gets sentenced to prison for eight years.

But Apollo wasn’t the only one to shed tears in the episode. Cynthia Bailey comforts Kenya Moore about the humiliation of being attacked by Porsha Williams during season six’s reunion show, but her attacker is unapologetic. Still, Kenya’s pain didn’t stop her from rejoicing over the end of Cynthia’s friendship with NeNe Leakes, which the former credits as the reason for her stronger marriage, as it’s given her more time for her husband.

While all of this is happening in Atlanta, NeNe leaves the drama behind and heads to Las Vegas to prep for her run in Cirque de Soleil’s Zumanity.

It looks like this is shaping up to be a great season — if we all press the mute button during Cynthia’s scenes, at least!
