Kesha is hoping a judge will let her out of her contract with producer Dr. Luke, and in court documents for the lawsuit, makes intense allegations against him.
The singer signed on with Luke when she was just 18-years-old, and in the papers, claims he was abusive from the very beginning. After alleged sexual advances, forced use of drugs and alcohol and even physical abuse, Kesha is hoping to regain control of her music career without being under the thumb of her longtime producer.
Additionally, the 27-year-old says this abuse is what led to her eating disorder (for which she was in rehab earlier this year). Among other things, Luke reportedly told her, “You are not pretty, you are not that talented, you are lucky to have me.”
“This lawsuit is a wholehearted effort by Kesha to regain control of her music career and her personal freedom after suffering for ten years as a victim of mental manipulation, emotional abuse and an instance of sexual assault at the hands of Dr. Luke,” Kesha’s lawyer said. “The facts presented in our lawsuit paint a picture of a man who is controlling and willing to commit horrible acts of abuse in an attempt to intimidate an impressionable, talented, young female artist into submission for his personal gain. Kesha is focused on moving her life and her career beyond this terrible time.”
