Months before Spring Breakers came out in March 2013, the Internet was abuzz about the film from the dozens of on-set bikini shots featuring stars Ashley Benson, Vanessa Hudgens, Selena Gomez and Rachel Korine. Now, in hopes of re-creating that anticipation, a Spring Breakers 2 is in the works — but the original cast and creator, Harmony Korine, are not involved.
James Franco also starred in the original film, and took to Instagram Wednesday to express his obvious disgust over the sequel news. “This is not being done with Harmony Korine or my consent,” he wrote. “The original was wholly Harmony’s creation and these producers are capitalizing on that innovative film to make money on a weak sequel.”
The actor didn’t stop there, though. While no details of the future film have been released yet, he clearly expressed his opinion on what kind of movie it will be. “It will be a terrible film, with a horrible reason d’être: to make money off someone else’s creativity,” he added.
Spring Breakers tells the story of four girls who head out on a wild spring break trip…and encounter a whole lot of trouble when they arrive.
