Following his arrest at a Broadway play last week, Shia LaBeouf is seeking help. The actor’s rep announced the news in a statement on Tuesday.
“Shia LaBeouf has not checked into a rehabilitation facility but he is voluntarily receiving treatment for alcohol addiction,” the rep said. “He understands that these recent actions are a symptom of a larger health problem and he has taken the first of many necessary steps towards recovery.”
The former Disney star’s strange behavior began last year, when he was criticized for plagiarizing in a short film. From there, he went on various Twitter rants, revealed on numerous occasions that he planned to retire and was “not famous,” and even wore a paper bag on his head to a movie premiere.
After laying low for a few months, the 28-year-old caused a disruptive scene at a showing of Cabaret last week. He was arrested, spent the night in jail and arraigned, where he pled not guilty.
