Does the shoe fit…him? On Wednesday, September 17, Will and Jada Smith’s son Jaden Smith made fashion history by becoming Christian Louboutin‘s first-ever Men’s Creative Director — but the groundbreaking appointment has divided fans over questions of nepotism.
The luxury brand confirmed that Jaden, 27, will oversee four men’s collections annually, including shoes, leather goods, and accessories. He’ll also help shape marketing campaigns, immersive experiences, and the brand’s visual identity.
“Merging my vision with Christian’s comes quite naturally because we see the world in a very similar way,” Jaden said in a statement.
The world will soon get a peek at what that looks like: Smith’s first capsule collection drops in January 2026 and will be available in select boutiques and online. Also in January, his full debut will be unveiled at men’s Fall/Winter 2026 Paris Fashion Week, and will hit stores in May 2026.

Louboutin, who founded his company in 1991, has never appointed anyone else to a creative director position, making the move a historic one for the red-sole fashion empire. Meanwhile, Smith, known for his gender-fluid styles, has been a fashion plate in his own right. In 2012, he founded his own streetwear brand MSFTSrep and has collaborated with New Balance on sneaker releases. In 2016, he also turned heads when he became the face of Louis Vuitton’swomenswear campaign.
Still, social media remains split, with critics questioning whether Jaden is a “nepo” hire, thanks to his famous parents.
“Why do celebrities and nepos get high earning positions where others have STUDIED, EXECUTED, and HONED their craft? It takes more than vibes and a famous parent to lead a department and brand,” blasted one angry fashion fan.
A second wrote, “What’s the point of fashion school anymore?”
But another fan calls the hiring a strategic move. “He’s just gonna point at stuff and pick the ones he finds ‘cool,’” adds a fan. “It’s just a publicity stunt really. And it works.”
