The world was predicted to end on Tuesday, September 23, but Sherri Shepherd kept her cool — this time.
“This one I didn’t fall for. I have been through this before,” the comedian joked of Rapture prophecies — which were created by a South African pastor and circulated widely online — during her eponymous talk show on Wednesday, September 25.
She went on to explain that she “used to be in a religion” where followers were told to expect the event during which, according to some Christians, all true believers will be brought to heaven signaling the beginning of the end times.
“I didn’t pay my bills. I didn’t pay my taxes. Why would I pay anything when the world’s about to end?” Shepherd, 58, said, adding that she didn’t renew her car registration for two years and had $10,000 worth of moving violations.
“Why would I show up to court when the world is about to end? Jesus don’t care about no parking tickets!” she continued.
But she was wrong. “Well, the world never ended. I went to jail,” the View alum explained, revealing that she served eight days for the violations. “Because I fell for the Rapture, I became a hardened criminal.”

Shepherd then jokingly checked with her staff to make sure “everybody’s still here,” and the camera cut to her control room, which was empty except for her supervising producer, Norman Baker.
“I guess heaven saw my search history,” he quipped.
