Say it isn’t so! On March 14, Sarah Michelle Gellar posted on Instagram that the long-awaited Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot is no more. “I’m really sad to have to share this,” the 48-year-old told fans, revealing that Hulu had decided not to move forward with Buffy: New Sunnydale, despite the star’s — and Oscar-winning director Chloé Zhao’s — participation.
“Whoever is running things at Hulu is either too old or too young to understand the magnitude of what they’re passing on,” wrote one fan of the 1997–2003 cult classic.

Without naming names, the actress later criticized the decision, telling People there was one exec on the reboot who was “proud” he didn’t watch the show. “So that tells you the uphill battle that we had been fighting since day one.” And SMG cannot shop the show elsewhere, since Hulu parent Disney owns the IP. But the former slayer will always be there for her fans, writing, “If the apocalypse comes… you can still beep me.”
