Bryce Dallas Howard says she has dreamed of working with her famous father, actor and director Ron Howard, for decades, but he said no for a surprising reason.

During an appearance Friday on “Good Morning America,” the 44-year-old actress said it was “a dream of mine” to work with her 71-year-old dad, who began his career as a child actor and found fame on “The Andy Griffith Show” playing the son of Andy Griffith’s character, Sheriff Andy Taylor, before growing up to become an acclaimed filmmaker.

“I want that so badly. And I’ve been working for almost 25 years. All joking aside, it would be a huge privilege to get to work with my dad,” she said. But it turns out she’ll have to keep waiting, unless she’s the one doing the hiring.

“He keeps saying to me, ‘No, no, no. We’ll work together when you hire me as an actor’,” she said.

While Ron Howard has recently returned to his acting roots, appearing in Seth Rogens “The Studio,” his daughter has been taking on the role of director. Along with directing the 2019 documentary “Dads,” she has helmed several episodes across multiple series within the “Star Wars” TV universe: “The Mandalorian,” “The Book of Boba Fett” and “Star Wars: Skeleton Crew.”

“My dad grew up on film sets. Both of his parents were actors, and he started acting when he was like 18 months old. So I think he just thought it was appropriate for children to be on sets,” she said of her Hollywood upbringing, which led her to follow in her father’s footsteps. “From as far back as I can remember, I was right there with my dad. I remember putting on the alien suit for “Cocoon” and the mermaid tail for “Splash” and “Parenthood” was all kids.”
